Special Workshop by Parents

Student mother of Adda Nazira and Bhuri taught the kids “Bottle Gourd Kheer” and we discussed the possibilities of experimenting with Kheer, including substituting Ghee with Butter, adding nuts etc. It was fun and very connecting experience.Students Nazira’s and Bhuri’s mother taught us how to make ‘Lauki (Bottle Gourd) ki kheer’. Children asked her lot of questions about her culinary skills. She shared steps by steps- first she mentioned we had to roast lauki on kadhai ( round circular Dish/Utensil used for cooking). Rahul asked her how would we know that the lauki has been roasted- she replied when it turns golden also means it is ready. She told us it is vital to roast it well for the kheer to have that crispy quality. Without proper roast, kheer will not get that desired taste.

We contemplated how could we innovate- Sunil, 7th class, had one idea he said that we could put dry fruits in this kheer and Krishna, 9th class, poured in with his idea- could we put a pinch of turmeric for the color! Nazira Ji mentioned if we put turmeric, it will also have a taste of turmeric which can spoil the taste of ’sweetness of kheer’. Faizal asked the way in which we made lauki kheer- can we look at making ‘gajar ki kheer’? We coaxed Faizal that he should experiment at home and then share the results with us.

Krishna, 9th class, and Rahul 8th class, tried ‘Lauki ki kheer’ at home which they after they learned at Adda. Krishna, 9th class, told us that there was no desi ghee at his house So he used butter in it Krishna told us that adding butter to the kheer did not change the taste of kheer, everyone agreed and liked what they were having.
